How to Create a Spring Tablescape – Farmers Market Style

I’ve mentioned before that I like to start any of my tablescapes with an inspiration piece. My inspiration for this spring/Easter table were the large egg crates that I got several years ago from a restaurant that was about to throw them out.

When I saw them, I immediately thought about how cute they would be as plate chargers.

My idea for using “farmers market” or grocery store items came from the huge bundles of bok choy that I found at the grocery store one day.

From there, the ideas for a farmers market themed table just started flowing.

I love to think outside the box when I am creating a table. It makes it fun to create something a bit different and sometimes use things in a way they weren’t necessarily intended.

For example, the egg cartons were obviously not intended to be used as tablescape decor. However, they were the perfect size and fit the theme so well.

I love collecting bird’s nest and things from nature to use for my home decor. Especially, for seasonal decorating.

Some of the nests, I used on the plates were actually bird’s nest I have collected over time. And the other “nests” are something that grows on some of the trees in my neighborhood. Back in the fall, I picked them up off the ground beneath some of the trees to use in my fall decor.

They resemble bird’s nest, so I decided to incorporate them into my spring tablescape along with the authentic nests.

I started with an egg crate as a plate charger, then layered a white dinner plate, and topped with a white salad plate.

I placed a folded brown and white striped napkin under the plates. Then for the finishing touch, topped each plate stack with a bird’s nest.

Silverware is tied with a narrow brown and white striped ribbon and rests on the side of each place setting.

And, my thrifted green goblets completed the look of my natural farmers market style spring table.

A moss table runner set the stage for my centerpiece and made the perfect anchor for my farmers market and grocery store vegetables.

Next, I used 3 weathered terra cotta pots and added the bok choy bundles that I found at the grocery store to my pots. I also found small bunches of boston lettuce and tucked a couple of them into the center of the bok choy bundles. They added so much fullness and created a beautiful bouquet.

And a couple of carrots with stems still attached were added to the last terra cotta pot.

I layered some large leaves from the bok choy randomly down the center of the table on top of my moss runner and started adding other vegetables, as well.

White carrots, orange carrots with the tops still attached, a couple of large white turnips and a red cabbage were perfect additions to my farmers market tablescape.

I also tucked in a few purple flowers, here and there. I loved the bright and beautiful color they added to this spring table.

Lastly, I added a few vintage brass candleholders with white tapers and tucked in some fresh thyme clippings to anchor the candles.

Another wonderful thing about creating a farmers market style tablescape is the vegetables can be used for your event then you can use them to cook up something yummy!

Inexpensive table decor and no waste.
