How To Make a Pumpkin Apple Cider Sangria Fall Cocktail

It’s that time of year when there begins to be a chill in the air, and there is something delightful about gathering with friends to celebrate the season. Today, I’m sharing how to make a pumpkin apple cider sangria cocktail that is perfect for any fall gathering.

It has been the hottest summer in Texas for as long as I can remember.

I’m not of fan of the heat and our scorching hot summers, so I am always so excited for the arrival of fall.

I love entertaining and hosting friends and family, and this yummy cocktail with seasonal fruit and fall flavors is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

ingredients for Pumpkin Apple Cider Sangria

1 bottle dry white wine – Sauvignon Blanc, Grenache, Pinot Grigio (I sometimes use Chardonnay)
1 1/2 cups of apple cider
2 tablespoons pumpkin simple syrup (recipe below)
sliced fresh fruit – apples, pears, oranges, pomegranate seeds, etc.
Topo Chico or club soda
cinnamon sugar for rim of glass – you can make this by mixing 1/3 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

directions for fall sangria

Add 1 bottle wine, 1 1/2 cups apple cider and 2 tablespoons of pumpkin simple syrup to a punch bowl or large pitcher and stir well.
Slice fruits of your choice and add to sangria mixture. I used sliced apples, pears, oranges and pomegranate seeds.
Refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
When ready to serve, run a slice of orange around the edge of the glass and dip in cinnamon sugar.


Pour cider into glasses filled with ice, and top with a splash of Topo Chico or club soda.
Garnish with cinnamon sticks and/or a slice of orange.
Enjoy the perfect fall cocktail!

I used these fun cocktail glasses for my sangria….

pumpkin simple syrup

Mix 1 cup water, 3/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup canned pumpkin puree and 1/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice to a saucepan.

Cook over low heat until boiling. Reduce heat and simmer while stirring until pumpkin puree, sugar and pumpkin pie spice are dissolved and well incorporated.

Turn off heat and let cool.

This can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.

Pumpkin Apple Cider Sangria

This delicious blend of wine, apple cider, pumpkin simple syrup, and fall fruits make a wonderful fall blend cocktail.

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle white wine sauvignon blanc, grenache, pinot grigio
  • 1 1/2 cups apple cider
  • 2 tablespoons pumpkin simple syrup
  • sliced fruits (apples, pears, oranges, etc.)
  • splash Topo Chico or club soda (optional)

Instructions

  • Add wine, apple cider and simple syrup to a punch bowl or pitcher.
  • Stir until blended.
  • Add sliced fruits and refrigerate at least 2 hours.
  • When ready to serve, fill glass with ice and pour sangria mixture in, then top with a splash of Topo Chico or club soda.
  • Garnish with orange slice and a cinnamon stick.

Pumpkin Simple Syrup

  • Add 1 cup water, 3/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup canned pumpkin and 1/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice to a saucepan.
  • Cook over low heat until boiling.

Notes

Topo Chico or club soda is optional.   This just adds a bit of fizz to the sangria.  
A variety of fruits can be used for sangria.  Apples, Pears, Oranges, Strawberries, Pineapple and Peaches are great options.

Basically, sangria is an alcoholic punch that originated in Spain. Red sangria recipes typically consist of red wine and fruits. Occasionally, other spirits, sparkling water and sweeteners, such as simple syrup might be added.
However, there is a white sangria version that is white wine and fruits.

what is the best wine for white sangria?

Sauvignon Blanc, Grenache, or Pinot Grigio are typically used for white sangria. I sometimes even use a Chardonnay. I think the key is using your favorite white wine or a wine that you like. Just avoid really sweet wines like a Moscato or Riesling.

what fruit is used for sangria?

Oranges, apples, pears, pomegranate perils are fruits typically used in a sangria. However, strawberries, pineapple, peaches and cranberries are also good options.

I used pear, orange and apple slices for this particular sangria, and also added pomegranate perils.
