There’s just nothing like sweet and juicy peaches.

We have a peach tree in our backyard and it produced the best peaches this year, and I was so excited.

The variety that I have produces fruit that is ripe in early to mid June, so unfortunately this time of the summer, I don’t have them on my tree anymore.

However, our local farmers market has loads of them every Saturday, so every weekend I stock up for the week.

Also, my favorite stop between Dallas and Houston is a small country store called Cooper Farms in Fairfield, Texas.

They sell tons of fresh sweet peaches and I love to buy them there. They are grown on their 300 acre family farm.

There is also the best homemade ice cream in several different flavors, but my fave is definitely the peach.

The last time I stopped, I actually tried the blueberry and peach mixed together and it was SO good.

Cooper Farms store not only sells homemade peach ice cream, but also peach milk shakes, homemade peach pie and cobblers, peach bread, peach tea, and the list goes on and on.

They also sell other delicious flavors of homemade pies and sweet breads, and lots of other specialty items.

when is peach season?

Peach season usually begins around the first of May and can last all the way through September.

There are about 33 states in the US that grow peaches and the harvest varies by state and type of peach tree.

A dollop of blueberry yogurt is a delicious addition to this amazing soup. It just takes this chilled soup to another level. I used Noosa Blueberry Yogurt for this recipe.

If you prefer, you could certainly use a vanilla yogurt in place of the blueberry yogurt.

Garnishing with a sprig of mint is a little extra touch to make your presentation even more beautiful.

You could also garnish with sliced peaches.

Serving in a chilled bowl would be another great idea.

One of the best ways to save time when serving this for a breakfast get together, is to
make the peach puree ahead of time, and chill in the refrigerator overnight. This makes it easy to serve for a breakfast side the next morning without spending a lot of time preparing it.

You can always serve this chilled soup in one large bowl, I just prefer serving in individual dishes. If you choose to serve in one bowl, you can still garnish with peach slices and a large dollop of yogurt for a pretty presentation..

Lastly, don’t be tempted to use canned peaches. The best choice for this peach chilled soup is fresh peaches or frozen peaches.

I love to be creative with ways to serve things.

Vintage dishes are one of my favorites.

I like to look for unusual individual serving dishes at thrift shops. And I have a collection of pieces I enjoy serving in.

Some of my favorites are…
* unusual shaped clear glass dishes, like the ones shown in the pics of this peach soup. These are a clear glass diamond shape dish on a stem. I found a set of them at a thrift store several years ago.
* vintage teacups are another favorite. These look so cute filled with soup sitting on top of a salad or dinner plate. It is the perfect way to serve for a ladies brunch, tea party, Mother’s Day, etc.
* vintage goblets in various colors. These are typically easy to find at estate sales and thrift stores, and there are so many different colors. I have a collection of gold ones and also dark green. Serving soups in vintage goblets is certainly unexpected and using colors that go with your theme or tablescape is fun.

frequently asked questions…

Does heavy cream thicken soup??

Heavy cream, yogurt or sour cream are great for thickening soup. However, you have to be careful about boiling it, because it may curdle.
That is why mixing the cold heavy cream with this peach soup after it has been cooked and chilled works perfectly.
It will slightly thicken the soup and there isn’t a risk of curdling the cream.

Can you store chilled peach soup in the refrigerator?

You can store leftover peach soup in the refrigerator in an airtight container for several days. But, chances are, you won’t have any leftovers!

It also makes a wonderful dessert served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream in place of the yogurt.
