How To Create a Woodsy Tablescape for Fall
It’s tablescape day for my dinner club group and I can’t wait to share how to create a woodsy tablescape for fall!!
I just love creating tablescapes! There is just something exciting and gratifying to me to shop my home and put together unusual and creative tables.
I enjoy finding ways to design a beautiful and unique table without spending a lot of money.
This month, my dinner club friends and I are sharing our fall tablescapes, and next month will be our Thanksgiving tables.
And, if you missed last months tablescape, I created a super fun football themed table and you can see it here.
If you are coming over from Jen at Midwest Life & Style, welcome! Her backyard harvest picnic was beautiful, didn’t you think?
I also want to welcome Robyn from Robyn’s French Nest as our guest host this month. Robyn creates beautiful tablescapes and shares them each Tuesday on her Instagram account. If you’re not already following her, you definitely want to!!

inspiration for my woodsy table
For my fall tablescape, I wanted to create something very different than I typically do for a fall table, so it would be completely different than what I will create for Thanksgiving next month.
I started looking around my house for ideas and inspiration and decided on a woodland, earthy and outdoorsy themed table.
My beautiful brown transferware dishes, and a couple of deer antlers that were my step father’s started the creativity flowing.
I recently ran across this beautiful brown plaid paper tablerunner that I thought would be perfect with my transferware dishes. Since it is a huge roll, I can use it many times, so it was worth the investment for me.
Another great option is a roll of wrapping paper. If you find a color and pattern you love and it goes with your tablescape, it’s makes a very inexpensive table runner.
I began by laying out my table runner and adding these cute twig placemats that I borrowed from a friend. I loved them so much, I went on a search and found some similar ones to order for myself. Those are linked at the bottom of the post.
fall place settings
For each place setting I started with a large white dinner plate from my thrifted white plate collection. Next, I added a brown transferware dinner plate, topped with a brown transferware salad plate.
linens and flatware
I topped each plate with a white linen napkin and tied with a narrow brown/white striped ribbon. The finishing touch was tucking in 2 feathers that I picked up at my local craft store.
I have been collecting clear glass vintage trays from thift stores for a while. They don’t all match, but are similar in size. They were probably relish trays of some sort.
I lined them with green moss and layed my silverware on top. I think it made a neat statement and added a touch of green to my woodsy themed tablescape.
extra touches to my woodsy place settings
When I was coordinating a wedding several years ago the bride used slices of a tree for the centerpiece decor. When the wedding was over they were planning to toss them all out, and I couldn’t stand it, so I brought them all home with me.
These different size wood pieces have been used so many times in my decorating and even display when I had a shop.
I used them on this tablescape as a coaster for the vintage green goblets. I think they added to the woodland theme so well, and didn’t cost a thing.
Last week, I went around my yard and through my neighborhood and collected these horse apples, grasses (weeds), and acorns.
I sprinkled the acorns and horse apples around the table. The colors and textures added such a beautiful element to the table. And the best part is, I had so much fun hunting for them, and it was all free!
woodsy theme centerpiece
For the centerpiece, I remembered this DIY reclaimed wood candleholder that my husband made out of some old wood I had been saving, and the aged wood color blended perfectly with my ideas for the color scheme of this table.
I put the candleholder down the center of my table and started layering different elements instead of just tapers.
I started with a large amber vase in the center and added those grasses that I found on my neighborhood foraging.
Next, I used 2 smaller amber vases on either end of the candleholder and added a cutting of a pine branch from my neighbors yard. I love the woodsy feel of it!
The finishing touch to my woodland ourdoor theme tablescape was the deer antlers. I have a few that were my stepfather’s and loved incorporating them into this table.
I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing how to create a woodsy tablescape for fall! And I hope you will pop over and see all of my friend’s fall tablescape inspiration.
Next up, on our tour is Robyn at Robyn’s French Nest. Her table is so beautiful! You don’t want to miss it.
