how can you tell when a pineapple is ripe?
When a pineapple is ripe, it should feel firm, but give just a little when squeezed.
If it feels too soft, that is a sign of an over ripe pineapple.
You should be able to smell the distinct pineapple scent when you smell at the base of the fruit.
Also, when you tug at the fronds (leaves) on the pineapple, they should pull out easily if the pineapple is ripe.
why does grilled pineapple taste better?
Grilling fruit brings out it’s natural sugars and sweetness which will enhance the flavor.
There is just nothing like the taste of a sweet pineapple when it’s grilled!
how do you cut a pineapple for grilling?
You can cut into pineapple slices or in spears for grilling.
Using a cutting board and a sharp knife, cut the top off of the whole pineapple.
Then, remove the skin from the pineapple and core it.
If you cut into spears, you will need to grill a few minutes longer since most likely they will be thicker pieces than the slices.
I like to use a sharp knife to remove the skin, then a pineapple corer to core and slice all at once.
how to grill pineapple
Brush or spray olive oil or vegetable oil on the grill grates of your charcoal or gas grill.
Place your pineapple rings or spears onto a hot grill rack.
Grill 2-3 minutes per side, or until grill marks appear on both sides of the pineapple.
You may need to grill a bit longer if you cut your pineapple into spears instead of slices
