7 Of My Favorite Thrifted Finds
I am so excited to be joining Thrifting with the Gals this week! Each week these 6 ladies share on Instagram the goodies they have found thrifting that week. Since I love thrifting, it is so fun to follow along and I was grateful to be included in their blog hop this week. Come along as I show you 7 of my favorite thrifted finds.
If you are coming here from Rachel at The Ponds Farmhouse, welcome. I am so glad you’re here! And be sure and check out the other thrifting gals to see the amazing things they have found too.
First of all, let me say I am sort of addicted to thrifting! I love finding someone else’s trash and turning it into my treasure. I have found so many amazing things over the years at thrift stores, garage sales, and estate sales.
A while back I shared how I find estate sales and what I like to look for in my post Estate Sale Shopping 101.
I also participated in a Thrifted Finds Home Tour last year, and shared how I add character to my home with thrifted finds that you might enjoying taking a look at.
let’s talk furniture
Let me share a few of my favorite furniture finds in my home. First up, is this amazing shutter door. I found this at a resale shop several years ago. It was in great condition and required no makeover. I love the beautiful natural color and the character it adds to the end of my hallway.
This drop leaf table is another favorite and was purchased at an estate sale. The color was a bit dated, so I did a little makeover and you can see the before and makeover process here.
And I love this little high chair, I bought at a garage sale, used as a plant stand. I was actually just gifted another one, so I will be using it at our new Airbnb cottage.
Perhaps, my most treasured find is this cane back sofa I found for $65. I still can’t believe it was in such great condition and was that price! I had the cushions recovered and removed some of the fabric from the front of the sofa, and she turned out beautiful.
The before…..
The after….
for the love of dishes
Now, here is where my real obsession comes in!! Oh, how I love dishes! My favorite collection is brown transferware, but I also love white ironstone and other colors of transferware too. I love finding unusual patterns of salad plates to use in my place settings. It’s so fun to layer a fun pattern on top of my thrifted white dinner plates.
I found this set of 11 salad plates with an ivy border at a thrift store for $4.94. They were perfect for my garden inspired brunch that I hosted recently. You can see all of the garden themed tablescape here.
As I mentioned, brown transferware is one of my favorites, so you can imagine how excited I was to find this entire set at a thrift store for $14.99!!
And this is how I styled them in my china hutch.
All of these little pretties were purchases on a recent trip to Waco and Round Top, Texas. I didn’t pay more than $7.00 for any piece.
so much character
I think vintage items add so much character to a home. They tell a story and make your home unique. I want to share just a couple of favorites in my home with you.
One, is this vintage tobacco basket. I actually ordered these from a tobacco farm and sold them at my shop several years ago. But recently, I found one behind a thrift store and they gave it to me for free. It will be going in the new Airbnb cottage.
I love the natural element and texture they add to a space.
This is the one currently in my home. And the one below is the one I found in the trash pile and got for free.
And let’s talk about these beautiful chippy corbels! These were purchased at a resale shop for $45 for the pair. I bought them when we were building the farmhouse and they now hold my mantel.
my most recent purchases
Lastly, I want to share a few things I purchased last week. These things haven’t been styled yet, because they will be going in our new Airbnb cottage that is currently being remodeled. Hopefully, I will be able to share them in their new home very soon.
The pie safe was purchased at my neighborhood garage sale for $45 and will look so adorable in the dining area at the cottage.
The adirondack chair was a neighborhood garage sale purchase and was only $5.00! I think it will be great on the back patio.
And this vintage table will get a fresh coat of paint and be a great nightstand. I think it will be super cute with a basket in the bottom.
I hope you have enjoyed seeing lots of vintage and thrifted treasures. Don’t ever underestimate what you might find at a garage sale or thrift store!!
Be sure and check out all the other amazing thrifted treasures from these ladies!!! Next up, is Kristin at White Arrows Home.
blessings and happy thrifting,

Michele those dishes are gorgeous! I hope I can find something like that up here! xo
Thanks Stacy! It was definitely a rare find. I hardly ever see brown transferware at a thrift store. They were hiding inside a hutch and I happened to spot them. Definitely my lucky day!
Michele seriously you have the most amazing finds. That couch😱
Thank you Ann!! I just love thrifting and seeing what I can find for a great deal. And that sofa was definitely a favorite! Thanks so much for asking me to join you ladies this week!
Michelle,
You have some amazing finds! I’m addicted to thrifting too! And that sofa….it’s incredible! Such a great piece!
Thanks so much Lynn! I love that sofa and couldn’t believe it was only $65!! It was so fun joining you ladies this week!
I can tell from this post that you are my people;) That sofa makeover, those transferware dishes, and that hutch! Yes, who needs drugs when you can get vintage scores like that? You can always make room for one more orphaned piece. Fun to be hopping with you today! Loved seeing your thrifty finds:)
Thanks so much Lora! I loved doing this thrifted tour with you ladies!
Michele,
Oh my gosh, you never disappoint. I wish we lived closer because I’d love to spend time with you. That high chair used as a plant stand is amazing. I saw a high chair that was so cute but I couldn’t think of how to use it since I don’t have grandkids. Now I’ll be on the look out for one. Thanks so much for joining us.
Oh, we would have so much fun Rachel!
I love using vintage things in unusual ways, so it was fun to use this high chair I found at a garage sale as a plant stand. I hope you can find one now.
i LOVE all of your found treasures ….. (we have very similar tastes…..) i would love a tour of your entire home….
Oh, thanks so much! I really appreciate that! I have had lots of requests for a home tour, so I am working on that.
I’m seriously in love with all of your favorite finds. But the one I’m most excited about is the brown transferware for less than $15. I can’t even believe it. If you ever want to part with it, I’ll give you double what you paid for it!
I couldn’t believe it either! It was tucked away inside a hutch in a thrift store. The hutch was marked SOLD, so I assumed the dishes were sold too. So glad I asked.
Hi Michele = You have an incredible eye for the right treasures.
Please don’t be offended when I ask how much it totally cost to have cane back sofa redone. If this is too personal, I understand.
Brown transferware is the steal of a lifetime. I broke down and bought some at TJ Maxx. Paid over $200 for the small amount I got. I still keep my eye out for the old ones as they have history and more beauty.
So admire your talents and expertise.
I don’t mind you asking, at all. I left the wood and cane part, as is. It was in excellent shape. I removed the burgundy velvet from the front of the sofa and underneath the cushions and replaced it myself using some french grain sack fabric I already had.
I had the three bottom cushions recovered by a professional and I think he charged me about $150. I ordered white duck canvas from Walmart for $6 per yard to recover them.
And thank you so much for your kind words.
