A Vintage Christmas Candlelight Tour of the Farmhouse

I’m so excited to share a vintage Christmas candlelight tour of the farmhouse!

I’ve really enjoyed coming up with some new ideas for decorating my home this year for the holiday season.

When some blogger friends asked me to join in a candlelight holiday home tour, I was happy to join.

I’ve been looking forward to sharing my holiday home with you, so let’s get started!

I have a vintage mirror that stays on this entryway chest all the time, and also a favorite lamp.

To those pieces, I added a stack of vintage books with my favorite urn filled with a large pillar candle.

And of course, I have a candle right at the front door to welcome guests with a wonderful scent of Christmas as they enter my home.

Lastly, I used two 3-ft strands of pine cones draped over the top and down one side of the mirror and added a bow.

For several years, I have been collecting white nativity scenes from thrift stores and estate sales. I also inherited one from my mother in law. Hers has a pearly white finish and is beautiful.

I also have some of my mother in laws and my grandmothers vintage Christmas ornaments. I really love to incorporate family heirlooms into my home decor.

I’ve never displayed my nativity collection and decided this year I wanted to place them all under glass cloches on my dining table that is right inside my front door.

I also added a vintage hymnal and a part of my white bottle brush tree collection.

The tree isn’t very tall, so I use an old planter box with legs to elevate my tree.

I use lots of white ornaments, and one of kind and vintage ornaments on the tree as well as some old flash cards with Christmas words on them.

The tree topper is a mixture of cotton stems, tallow berry stems and dried hydrangeas.

A large french basket holds a lot of the gifts, right beside the tree.

A dropleaf table I found at an estate sale and gave a makeover stands beside the tree.

And this year, for the first time, it holds part of my Santa collection and a large silver punch bowl filled with vintage Christmas balls.

My Christmas village and vintage carolers found a new home in the bookshelves in the living room.

I’ve been adding white houses and churches to my collection for many years, and was fortunate to find a bag of small carolers at a thrift store a few years ago to add to the village.

A strand of battery operated tiny white light strung through the village and topped with a layer of faux snow makes it a look like a magical little village.

The mantle has a white pine garland and strand of gold Christmas lights.

I wanted the large old fashioned light bulbs, but didn’t like the green cord, so I removed the bulbs and spray painted the cord and sockets with gold spray paint.

It was a super easy DIY and made a huge difference.

White chunky knit stockings hang on one end of the mantle and I finished it off with a strand of gold bells.

A wreath that I made in the fall with oak leaf branches I picked up in my moms yard and stuck in a grapevine wreath got a quick coat of gold spray paint. I topped it with bow and it was the perfect simple wreath to compliment my mantle garland.

And lastly, the fabulous neutral and sparkly 4′ feet nutcrackers I found in California at a CVS store and hauled home on an airplane, flanked each side of the fireplace.

And for the barn doors in my living room, I used 2 large thrifted grapevine wreaths. I removed the piece of grapevine that winds around and holds the wreath tightly together, then I pulled on the wreath to loosen it up a bit.

This made them a little larger and also more of a free form and natural shape. I added some fresh greenery cut from my moms land and also some cedar trees in my neighborhood to the bottom edge of the wreath.

I attached the greenery with floral wire and added a taupe silk ribbon.

I kept the Christmas decor fairly simple in my bedroom.

The 7′ foot Noble Fir tree I received this year from King of Christmas was so beautiful. I placed it in the corner and added a tree skirt and only a few simple handmade ornaments and velvet ribbons.

It looks magical at night, and I highly recommend this tree!!

I added a faux cedar wreath and a large brass horn I found a thrift store to the center of a vintage tobacco basket that hangs on the wall.

One of my favorite furniture pieces in my home is the large open front hutch in my kitchen and also one of my favorite places to decorate for each season as well as special events and parties.

It is a very old piece I purchased at Round Top Antiques Festival when we were building the farmhouse.

I love to display my favorite dishes and collectibles, and dress it up especially this time of year.

This year, my white Christmas tree collection filled the top. And a white garland I made with pics of faux white pine and another white faux pic I found at a local boutique.

I hung a chain from an old light fixture along the top and down one side and clipped sheets of vintage Christmas music to it.

The shelves of the hutch are filled with my vintage white Santa mug collection along with a few new white Santa mugs.

A bowl filled with vintage silver Christmas balls, a white Santa cookie jar and a few white bottle brush trees fill in other spaces.

Green Christmas trees, both faux and real stand inside pieces of my vintage silver collection on top of the china cabinet in the breakfast area.

Pitchers, sugar bowls, creamers and even the base to an old oil lantern are used for this display.

And the finishing touch to my tree display is the personalized Christmas Tree Farm sign I received from Tailored Canvas this year.

The wall where my ironstone plate Christmas tree was last year, was replaced with a pair of ironstone plates and a vintage frame and topped with a spray of fresh greens.

And I used some of my ironstone soup tureens to force paperwhite bulbs in. They are the centerpiece for my breakfast table this year.

I love to dress up my downstairs guest bedroom for Christmas!

It’s fun to walk by and see the “rag” tree I made years ago, lit up at night. And I think it’s welcoming for any guests we might host during the holidays.

Many years ago, I found a 6′ foot white wire Christmas tree wrapped with tiny white lights at a Big Lots store. It is actually meant for lawn ornament.

I cut pieces of lace and ribbon and tore strips of neutral color fabric and tied each piece on to cover the entire tree.

The lights still show through and although it took many hours of work, it was totally worth it!

It’s still one of my favorite Christmas decor items.

Last year I created a Christmas tree shape out of ironstone plates and hung them on the wall in my breakfast area.

I loved it so much, but wanted to create something just a bit different this year, so I used some of my vintage silver trays. I created the same look in the guest room with the trays this year.
