A Christmas Tour of the Garden House
I can’t begin to tell you how excited I have been to share a Christmas tour of the garden house!
This little greenhouse was a labor of love this past summer.

We started the project on June 5th and finished it on July 21st of 2025.
Some of those days the temperature was in the high 90’s. To say it was miserable, is an understatement!
Somehow, we managed to work on it together for hours at a time in the intense heat, and survived with our marriage still intact.
greenhouse Christmas inspiration

The inspiration for decor in the garden house was a beloved vintage Christmas tree.
I have used this tree inside my living room at Christmas for many years.
I thrifted the white tree many years ago for about $20. Well, it was white back in its prime, but over the years was probably stored in someones attic, so it’s actually cream color now.
It has seen better days and had gotten in such bad shape, I decided to replace the tree in my living room.
However, I just couldn’t part with it quite yet.
As the holiday season approached and I was trying to decide if I would decorate the greenhouse, I thought about the vintage tree.
The garden house was the perfect place for it.
It isn’t very tall, so I have always used an old planter box on casters to lift it up.
What better Christmas tree stand than a planter box for a greenhouse?

color inspiration for the garden house
As most of you know, I use mostly neutral colors in my home.
But, I thought I would step “out of the box” with the greenhouse holiday decor.
Of course, green is an obvious choice. So, I decided to go all in with traditional Christmas colors and bring in bright red, as well.

With the exception of a box of papier mache ornaments I found at Walmart this year and a roll of ribbon, I used only things I already had.
For the tree decor, I tore an old green and white plaid sheet into strips about 3″ wide.
I made a garland by tying the strips together end to end. In the places where the strips came together, I tied them in a bow.
Then, I draped the long length of fabric garland around the tree.

I hung garden tools, garden gloves and seed packets all over the tree.
I had a couple of small galvanized watering cans I used on the tree and also added some small terra cotta pots.
Lots of herbs were cut from my garden and tied together in bundles.
I tucked the herb bundles in all over the tree and used wooden plant markers with different herb names written on them to add to the garden theme.

Lastly, I made a large bow out of green and white striped ribbon and added it to the top of the tree.
I finished it off with a trio of gardening tools sticking out the top of the tree.

door wreath

I clipped branches from my lemon eucalyptus tree and made a wreath for the front door of the garden house.
I tucked in some pieces of juniper and made a bow from the same ribbon as the Christmas tree topper to add to the top of the wreath.
I love the natural and imperfect look of the wreath, and it smells wonderful!
potting table garland

I cut lots of fresh greenery from my brother’s land, including pine and cedar and made a garland to add to the front of my potting table.
I also cut some branches from random trees in my neighborhood and backyard to use, as well.

To create the “garland” I group bundles of the greenery together and tied them end to end with floral wire until I had the length I needed.
I made another bow out of the wide green and white striped ribbon and wired it to the center of the greenery.

miscellaneous garden inspired Christmas decor

Two matching faux greenery wreaths were hung from the back 2 windows on the greenhouse, and I added matching bows to them.

I added stirofoam inside 3 small terra cotta pots.
Then, pressed battery operated taper candles down into the stirofoam and topped it with reindeer moss.
Red poinsettias were placed inside 2 larger terra cotta pots and nestled between the taper candles.
The candles and red poinsettias made a lovely centerpiece display on the potting table.

A stack of “In Her Garden” magazines were tied with a red and white striped ribbon.

Leftover fresh greenery made it’s way into my black Hunter rain boots for a fun holiday display.

And lastly, I added red Shiny Bright ornaments to a large tumbleweed that I have displayed on a vintage porch column in the corner of the garden house.

I had so much fun getting creative with gardening accessories I already had in the greenhouse and adding in touches of fresh greens to decorate my garden house for Christmas for the first time.
At Thanksgiving, we had a hot chocolate party in the garden house for my granddaughters, and they loved it!

And I also hosted a very impromptu wine and cheese party for some close friends.

I hope you enjoyed a Christmas tour of the garden house!
Have a blessed and Merry Christmas friends,
